The need

When food runs out, children feel it first.

In many parts of Africa, drought and food crises leave families without enough to eat. Households that depend on livestock are forced to keep moving in search of food and water — and every move leaves children more exposed.

Hunger in early childhood can shape a child’s health for life. Children with disabilities face even greater obstacles in reaching the care and support they need.

This campaign focuses on three essentials: food, clean water and care.

The work you support

Food, clean water and essential care.

Your gift supports three connected areas of work, each one focused on children.

    Food and nutrition

Finding malnutrition early gives a child the best chance to recover. Screenings identify children who need help, treatment supports their recovery, and families receive guidance on how to feed infants and young children.

    • Nutrition screenings for young children and pregnant women
    • Treatment for children with malnutrition
    • Infant and child feeding support for mothers
    • Training for health workers to identify and treat malnutrition
  2. Children and a woman at a temporary camp, with water containers and cooking pots on the ground

    Clean water

Without water, schools and health facilities struggle to stay open. Clean water is trucked in to keep them running, while communities receive practical help to build lasting access.

    • Clean water delivered to schools and health facilities
    • Technical support for water, well and storage systems
  3. A boy in a wheelchair laughing joyfully

    Essential care

In a crisis, the most vulnerable children are the easiest to miss. Care means making sure children with disabilities are seen and reached — and helping communities prepare so the next crisis does less harm.

    • Attention to children with disabilities, who face added barriers to aid
    • Help for communities to plan for and prevent future crises
